WATEB BEPABTMENT- B.P.W. <br /> <br />20 East Worcester Street <br />Worcester, Massachusetts 01604 <br />(508) 929 -1300 <br /> <br />IDepartmentalMission Statement: e~ <br /> The mission of Water Operation is to provide a safe and dependable water supply~ <br /> to the Worcester community as measured by the number of days in complianc <br /> with State and Federal Regulations. <br /> <br />Divisional Overview: <br /> <br />The Water Division is an Enterprise <br />operation responsible for the <br />supply and conveyance of potable <br />water throughout the city. Water <br />Operations provides an average of 24 <br />million gallons per day (mgd) for both <br />in-city use and sale to towns and water <br />districts adjacent to Worcester. The <br />supply system consists of 10 reservoirs <br />located in five neighboring towns. <br />Worcester's complex distribution system <br />includes over 592 miles of water mains <br />ranging in size from 3/4 to 54-inch <br /> <br />diameter pipes, 6,100 fire hydrants and <br />nearly 40,000 service connections. <br />Emergency response to system failures is <br />provided 24 hours a day throughout the <br />year. The in-city water user fee for fiscal <br />2005 is recommended to be $2.38 per <br />100 cubic feet (CCF) of water used. This <br />year's rate is increased by $0.18 or 8.2%. <br />The Water rate for out of town users will <br />increase $0.09 or 2.9% to $3.15 per 100 <br />cubic feet (ccf).
