WORCESTER POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />9- 11 Lincoln Square <br />Worcester, Massachusetts 01608 <br />(508) 799-8600 <br /> <br />_.q. epar men a lSSlOn a emen: <br /> To promote the highest level of public safety and quality of life in the City of <br /> Worcester, through exceptional police services to the City's residents, businesses <br /> and visitors. <br /> (a) Focusing, first and foremost on crime prevention, protection of people and <br /> property, and the preservation of peace and order within the community, through <br /> fair and equitable enforcement of laws, while carefully safeguarding the dignity of <br /> all who are touched by the process. <br /> (b) Promoting an atmosphere of community wide partnership in public safety, <br /> fostering trust and confidence of the citizenry examining their concern about crime, <br /> and collectively working on solutions to the root causes. <br /> (c) Allowing for the safe and expeditious movement of vehicular and pedestrian <br /> traffic over the network of City streets and crossings. <br /> (d) Providing rapid emergency response to incidents, as needed. <br /> (e) Channeling feedback investigations and crime statistics into continuous <br /> ideas for improved police procedures and proactive efforts to reduce future crime. <br /> <br />Departmental Overview: <br />The Worcester Police Department's <br />primary mission is to protect and <br />serve the public through police <br />services. These services often <br />depend upon cooperation with other City <br />Departments and private and state agencies <br />as well. The department strives to offer the <br />best protection and service to our City and <br />endeavor to make it one of the finest police <br />departments in any city. If the needs of oar <br />changing society are to be met, the <br /> <br />Worcester Police Department must be <br />willing and able to adjust in order to <br />address these needs. <br /> <br />The Police Department is comprised of <br />three hundred seventy-nine (379) budgeted <br />police officers, ninety-six (96) officials and <br />forty-eight (48) civilian personnel.
