The office serves <br />the City of Worcester as the most visible <br />center for constituent service and <br />problem solving. The staff handles <br />constituent complaints and provides <br />access to City government for <br />community and civic groups. The <br />Mayor's staff organizes numerous special <br />events, public celebrations, and receives <br />distinguished visitors. The Mayor's <br />Office consists of a secretary to the <br />mayor and one assistant secretary to the <br />mayor. <br /> <br />Those candidate's nominated in the <br />preliminary election for the Office of <br /> <br />Councilor at Large appear on the ballot <br />as a candidate for Mayor, unless the <br />candidate withdraws their name from <br />nomination to the Office of Mayor. The <br />candidate elected Councilor-at-Large and <br />receiving the largest number of votes for <br />the Office of Mayor is nominated to be <br />the Mayor. <br /> <br />The Mayor, under the provision set forth <br />with the City's Charter, is recognized as <br />the highest ranking elected political <br />official.
