WOIIffiST[IFS BABL;IIN6 r, AIPAIEN

City Hall Room 309
455 Main Street
Worcester, Massachusetts 01608
(508) 799-1175
Departmental Overview:

The marketing of the "City of
Worcester" will improve the
image of the city, which will be a
benefit to economic development
as well as a benefit to the perception of
the residents.

A city with a more positive image will
enhance our ability to attract new
business to broaden the City's tax base
and create additional employment. An
aggressive and comprehensive marketing
plan, which identifies the numerous
competitive advantages Worcester can
offer to potential businesses, is an
investment, which can return
immeasurable dividends. There needs to
be a comprehensive marketing plan that
articulates and communicates, using a
variety of messaging, the many
competitive advantages that Worcester
offers to convenfioneers, visitors,
airlines, and businesses. A primary goal
of the marketing plan to be implemented
is to broaden the City's tax base and
create jobs in Worcester and the region.
Focusing on telecommunications,
biomedical and medical devises, higher
education, medical services, arts and
culture, manufacturing, finance and
retail, we tell our story to people,
business, the media and other

communities. The marketing effort has
implemented numerous multi-media
efforts, which need to be complimented
by site visits and additional collateral
material. Although the funding was not
forthcoming for FY '04 the Corporation
was able to produce the collateral piece
that has a shelf life of a few years by
utilizing unexpended public funds from
the previous fiscal year and private
donations. The Corporation will continue
to meet and determine how best we can
market the city and the region utilizing
the various partners such as colleges, real
estate firms and our largest employers.

Working in conjunction with SMG and
the Worcester County Convention &
Visitor's Bureau, the City continued in
2003-2004 to market and sell the
Worcester Centrum Centre to
convention/meeting planners. There is
significant economic impact from
conventions and trade shows coming into
Worcester and spending money in retail,

dining, entertainment, and hotel
establishment in the area. While local
businesses will benefit from the
investment, the City will also benefit
through increased revenues generated
from the Hotel/Motel tax.

CITY OF WORCESTER FISCAL 2005 ANNUAL BUDGET

Page 1
